Framework conditions and speed of implementation: great need for improvement
Our latest study “Is Germany’s energy transition moving fast enough?”, in which around 600 top executives – including managing directors, board members, supervisory board members and interim managers from various sectors – were surveyed in May 2024, provides important insights into the significant challenges that are anticipated and reflected in the energy transition. The great need for improvement in the speed of implementation and the framework conditions for the transformation of the energy industry is particularly clear: around 90 percent of respondents rate these areas as needing improvement or significant improvement – an alarming figure. This applies to the political as well as the economic and socio-political level.
Necessary political measures and the key role of hydrogen
The promotion of disruptive technologies (56%) and the expansion of renewable energies (53%) are also identified by more than half as immediate tasks for policymakers. Almost two thirds of the study participants see hydrogen as a key component of the energy transition. 55% emphasize the importance of a hydrogen core network and call for investments in the production capacity for green hydrogen and in the supply chain for hydrogen imports.
